Hinton Rural Life Center to host rural poverty simulation Aug. 13

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Hinton Rural Life Center will hold a Rural Poverty Simulation from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 13, to help participants better understand the daily challenges facing many rural individuals and families.

The interactive experience places participants in the role of someone navigating limited resources, unexpected hardships and difficult decisions. Organizers say the simulation is designed to encourage empathy, awareness and deeper conversations about rural poverty while exploring ways communities can support their neighbors.

The event is open to community members, educators, volunteers, church leaders, service providers and others interested in learning more about the challenges rural families face.

Cost is $10 per person. Pre-registration is required, and the registration deadline is Aug. 7.
