Union General Health System to Host Free Community Health Fair Sept. 19

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Union General Health System will host its annual Health Fair from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Union General Hospital, 35 Hospital Road.

The event offers a wide range of free health screenings, including blood pressure and vital signs, breast exams, oxygen saturation, body fat percentage, DEXA bone density scans, fall risk assessments, hearing and vision screenings, skin checks, toe brachial index readings, vein ultrasounds, EKGs, ankle-brachial index screenings, carotid ultrasounds, glucose checks and aortic aneurysm screenings. Chair massages will also be available.

The Union County Health Department will provide flu shots. Residents should bring their insurance cards to determine coverage; shots not covered by insurance will cost $30 cash.

Optional laboratory services will be offered for a fee. A comprehensive panel that includes a comprehensive metabolic panel, complete blood count, lipid panel and thyroid-stimulating hormone test costs $35. Additional tests include a prostate-specific antigen test for $15, hemoglobin A1C for $10 and vitamin D for $25. Officials remind attendees who plan to have blood work done to fast beforehand.

Participants can also learn hands-only CPR. Information will be available on advance directives, home health agencies, rehabilitation services, hospice agencies, home care equipment and the Georgia HEART Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program.

Door prizes will be awarded, and various vendors will be on site with giveaways. Refreshments will be provided.
