ANDREWS, N.C. — The Andrews Lady Wildcats bounced back from a recent losing skid in a big way Tuesday, Oct. 21, defeating NCSSM: Morganton 3-1 to advance to round 3 of the 1A NCHSAA tournament.
After dropping being eliminated from the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament in round 1, Andrews regrouped on their home court and found their rhythm against the Dragons. The win was a welcome confidence boost as the Wildcats improved their record to 11-12 on the season.
Next up, Andrews will travel to face the Leadership Academy Falcons on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. The Falcons enter the matchup at 19-7 after sweeping Hiwassee Dam 3-0 earlier in the week.
Leadership Academy (19-7) will present a tough challenge. The Falcons swept Hiwassee Dam 3-0 on Tuesday in what was dubbed a “Battle of the Birds,” showing the same dominance that has defined their season.
For Andrews, Thursday’s road matchup represents a chance to prove they can hang with one of the region’s strongest teams — and to keep their post-season surge alive.
