A busy Tuesday night on the hardwood brought a mix of dominant performances and close finishes for area teams, with Andrews, Hayesville, Murphy, Hiwassee Dam and Union County all taking center stage.
Andrews sweeps Blue Ridge Early College
Andrews made a clean sweep on the road at Blue Ridge Early College, earning wins in both the girls and boys non-conference matchups. The Andrews girls set the tone early and cruised to a 56–25 victory, holding Blue Ridge to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters. The Andrews boys followed with an equally decisive performance, defeating Blue Ridge 55–14 and keeping the home team off balance all night.
Cherokee dominates Hayesville
Hayesville ran into a tough Cherokee squad in conference play, with both Yellow Jacket teams falling on the road. The Cherokee girls jumped out to a commanding 24–4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, rolling to a 56–13 win. Hayesville struggled to find offense throughout the night, managing just 13 points overall.The boys contest was more competitive early, but Cherokee pulled away in the second half to secure a 62–41 victory. Hayesville trailed by eight at halftime and couldn’t close the gap as Cherokee finished strong in the fourth quarter.
Split results for Hiwassee Dam against Robbinsville
Hiwassee Dam and Robbinsville split their matchups in a pair of tightly contested games. The Lady Eagles of Hiwassee Dam earned a hard-fought 53–50 road win in conference action. After trailing at halftime, Hiwassee Dam used a strong third quarter to regain control and held off a late Robbinsville push. In the boys game, Robbinsville answered back in convincing fashion, defeating Hiwassee Dam 66–32. Robbinsville built a big early lead and maintained steady pressure throughout to secure the non-conference win.
Murphy rolls past Nantahala
Murphy enjoyed a successful night at Nantahala, picking up conference wins in both games. The Murphy girls were in control from the opening tip, posting a 67–30 victory behind consistent scoring in every quarter. The boys followed with an 83–47 win, using a balanced offensive attack to pull away and keep Nantahala at arm’s length.
Union County splits with North Murray
Union County earned a split at home against North Murray. The Lady Panthers claimed a 54–43 conference win, using a strong first quarter and a solid defensive effort down the stretch to seal the victory. In the boys matchup, North Murray came out on top, handing Union County an 83–69 loss. Despite a competitive effort, the Panthers couldn’t overcome North Murray’s offensive surge in the second half.
