CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Cherokee High School varsity volleyball team dominated Murphy High School in a decisive 3-0 sweep during Thursday’s home conference match, solidifying their unbeaten streak in conference play. The Braves (13-6, 10-0) overpowered the Bulldogs (6-6, 2-6) with set scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-15 on Sept. 18.
Cherokee, ranked 10th in their class, showcased their depth and precision, maintaining a perfect 10-0 conference record. The Braves’ relentless attack and strong defense left little room for Murphy to counter, as the Lady Braves controlled the match from start to finish.
Murphy, ranked 34th in their class, struggled to find their rhythm against the Braves’ aggressive play. Despite a competitive effort in the second set, where they narrowed the gap to 25-20, the Bulldogs could not overcome Cherokee’s momentum. Murphy’s overall record stands at .500, with a 2-6 mark in conference play.
The Braves’ home court advantage was evident, as they improved to 7-0 at home this season. Cherokee’s 41-14 set win-loss record reflects their consistency, while Murphy’s 21-20 set tally highlights their up-and-down campaign.
With this victory, Cherokee continues to assert their dominance in the conference, while Murphy looks to regroup for their next matchup. On Monday, Sept. 22, the Lady Bulldogs host Franklin for a non-conference battle.
