Catamount Football Enters National Rankings at No. 24 in Media Poll

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina football entered the national rankings this week in two of the three major FCS polls released Monday, debuting at No. 24 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 and No. 25 in the FCS Nation Radio Top 25. The Catamounts (1-0) are also receiving votes in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, sitting just outside the Top 25.

The Southern Conference placed three teams in this week's Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Tennessee Tech climbed from No. 14 to No. 12, while Mercer moved up two spots from No. 21 to No. 19. Western Carolina debuted at No. 24, while Chattanooga also received votes.

Two SoCon teams remained ranked in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, with Tennessee Tech at No. 13 and Mercer at No. 15. Western Carolina joined Wofford, Furman, Chattanooga, and ETSU among teams receiving votes. Saturday's opponent, Campbell (1-0), also garnered six votes.

In the FCS Nation Radio Top 25, Tennessee Tech checked in at No. 11, Wofford entered the rankings at No. 23, and Western Carolina rounded out the poll at No. 25. The poll featured six teams that were unranked in the preseason rankings before earning spots following the opening weekend of play.

Western Carolina (1-0) hits the road for the next two weeks, beginning Saturday, Sept. 5, with a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Campbell (1-0) at Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C. The Camels enter their home opener after posting a 49-37 victory at ETSU last Saturday in Johnson City, Tenn.
