Staff Report
Those in charge of the restoration of the Berrong-Oakley house in Towns County have announced the selected exterior paint colors for the historic Berrong-Oakley House, following an enthusiastic community survey. By an overwhelming margin, a winning color scheme has been chosen and officially approved by the project’s restoration committee.
Community input played a central role in the decision-making process. “Your voices, support, and involvement help ensure this project truly reflects and serves the people who will use and enjoy it for generations to come,” project overseers said in a statement. The house is being carefully restored to serve as a community event space and cultural heritage center, making public participation in the project particularly meaningful.
The chosen color palette—dubbed Historical Contrast with Depth—includes Shoji White for the main body, a warm, soft white with subtle beige undertones that echo early 1900s paint tones. The trim will be painted Alabaster, a creamy white that highlights windows, columns, and eaves without creating a stark break. Accessible Beige will be used for porch railings and sunburst accents, adding muted taupe-beige tones for visual depth and warmth.
Painting is expected to begin next spring, bringing these carefully chosen colors to life.
