Flags to Fly at Half-Staff Saturday in Honor of Judge and Former State Senator John J. Snow, Jr.

Murphy Mayor Tim Radford has announced that flags at all Town of Murphy municipal buildings will be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from sunrise to sunset, in recognition of the life and service of Judge and former State Senator John J. Snow, Jr.

The half-staff order coincides with Judge Snow’s funeral service.

“Judge Snow dedicated much of his life to serving our community, our region, the State of North Carolina, and our country,” Mayor Radford stated. “He served as a judge, Chief District Court Judge, state senator, Army officer, and devoted member of the Murphy community.”

Mayor Radford highlighted Snow’s enduring personal qualities and legacy:

“His legacy of faith, service, integrity, and love for family will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his impact on Murphy will be felt for generations.”

The mayor asked the community to keep Snow’s wife Sheila and the entire Snow family in their thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.

Judge Snow’s long record of public service left a lasting mark on Cherokee County and western North Carolina. Local officials and residents are expected to pay their respects at Saturday’s funeral services.
