HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Hayesville Yellow Jacket football team fell 29-10 to Robbinsville in a road Smoky Mountain Conference game on Friday night, Sept.19, struggling to keep pace with the Black Knights' potent rushing attack.
Hayesville started strong with a defensive stand, keeping the game scoreless until Robbinsville broke through with a 2-yard rushing touchdown late in the first quarter. Trailing 6-0, the Yellow Jackets responded in the second quarter when junior kicker Josue Salas nailed a 21-yard field goal with about three minutes left, cutting the deficit to 6-3 at halftime.
The second half proved challenging for Hayesville. Robbinsville extended their lead with a 22-yard field goal and a 9-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, followed by another touchdown and successful PAT in the fourth, building a 22-3 advantage. Hayesville managed a late touchdown to reach 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. The Yellow Jackets struggled offensively against Robbinsville’s defense, which held them to just the single field goal until the final quarter.
Hayesville will look to rebound in their next matchup as they aim to climb back in the conference race when they travel to Rosman on Friday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
