Hayesville JV Volleyball Sweeps Three Matches in Busy Week

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets junior varsity volleyball team swept three matches this week, defeating Smoky Mountain, Highlands and Hiwassee Dam while showing steady improvement and determination.

Hayesville defeated Smoky Mountain 25-23, 25-21 on Monday, Aug.10; Highlands 25-23, 25-7 on Tuesday, Aug. 11; and Hiwassee Dam 25-17, 25-15 on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The Lady Jackets displayed defensive hustle and an improving ability to compete in extended rallies. They also showed progress in court awareness and offensive organization, with contributions from players throughout the lineup.

Setter Harper Ledford provided steady leadership and directed the offense in all three matches, creating attacking opportunities and keeping the team organized when plays broke down. Kaitlyn Cantafio anchored the back row with strong effort and a willingness to pursue difficult balls. Emily Dowling contributed in serve receive, defense, serving and attacking.

At the net, Kara Bauer emerged as an aggressive offensive option and provided a physical presence as both a hitter and blocker. Candace King was another frequent attacking option who contributed in several areas. Brooklyn Smith and Maci Cabe continued developing their front-row chemistry while affecting rallies with their hitting and blocking.

Bella Byers provided serving pressure and gave the team a spark during her rotations. Bella Costa and Isabella Mintz contributed depth in the back row and gained valuable experience. Hayesville also received meaningful contributions from players used in specialized and substitute roles.

The Lady Jackets’ strongest qualities were their effort and willingness to compete. Players kept many difficult balls alive and continued fighting through challenging stretches.

As the season progresses, Hayesville will focus on improving communication, serve-receive consistency and converting defensive plays into aggressive offensive opportunities. The week provided valuable match experience and several encouraging signs for the young team.

Next up for the JV squad is a road match against Swain County at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25 to open the Smoky Mountain Conference portion of the season.
