CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets varsity volleyball team fell to the Cherokee Lady Braves in a battle for the top spot in the Smoky Mountain Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Charles George Memorial Arena. Cherokee secured a three-set victory with scores of 25-12, 25-20, and 25-16.
The Lady Yellow Jackets entered the night with a seven-match winning streak. However, Cherokee set the tone early with strong serves and a solid defense, cruising to a 25-12 win in the first set.
Hayesville showed fight in the second set, tightening their defense and finding offensive rhythm to keep the score close. Despite their efforts, Cherokee’s precise attacks and key blocks sealed a 25-20 win. In the third set, the Lady Braves maintained their momentum, pulling away for a 25-16 victory to close out the match.
Even with the loss, the Lady Jackets are still very much in the hunt for a SMC title. The team looks to bounce back as they host conference opponent Rosman on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m.
