Hiker Rescued in Critical Condition After Medical Emergency in Clay County

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — A hiker was rescued from a remote area in Clay County, North Carolina, early Wednesday morning after experiencing a medical emergency, authorities said.


Clay County Fire and Rescue, alongside Clay County Emergency Services and the Clay County Sheriff's Office, responded to the incident around 4:30 a.m. off Buck Creek Road in the Shooting Creek Fire District. The agencies worked together to stabilize the hiker and carry them out of the wooded area.


The hiker, whose identity was not released, was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
