Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles Secure First Win of Season

MURPHY, N.C. — The Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles volleyball team celebrated their first victory of the 2025 season, defeating Summit Charter 3-1 in a non-conference home match on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The Lady Eagles (1-11, 0-4) outlasted the Summit Charter Gryphons (0-8, 0-3) in a competitive four-set match, with set scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, and 25-21. The win marked a significant milestone for Hiwassee Dam, which had faced a challenging start to the season, including a 12-game losing streak.
Hiwassee Dam took an early lead by winning the first set 25-22, showcasing strong teamwork and defensive play. Summit Charter responded in the second set, edging out the Lady Eagles 25-18 to even the match. However, Hiwassee Dam regained momentum in the third and fourth sets, securing 25-20 and 25-21 victories to clinch the match.
This victory improves Hiwassee Dam’s overall record to 1-11 while Summit Charter remains winless at 0-8.
The Lady Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season, aiming to improve their standing in the Little Smoky Mountain Conference. Their next scheduled match is against Swain County on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
