Hiwassee Dam’s Page Wins Regional Title, Eagles Place Fifth at Western 1A Championship

Bryson City, N.C. — Hiwassee Dam sophomore Oscar Page blazed through the course in 16 minutes, 59.1 seconds to win the individual title at the NCHSAA 1A Western Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Bryson City.


Page’s performance led the Eagles to a fifth-place team finish with 104 points, earning them a strong showing among the region’s top 1A programs. Andrews claimed the team championship with 44 points, followed by Robbinsville (57) and NCSSM-Morganton (71).


Hiwassee Dam packed its runners tightly behind Page. Maverick Hawley was the team’s second finisher, placing 17th overall (18:18.9). Xavier Johnson finished 28th (20:20.8), followed by Travis Allen in 29th (20:55.5) and Brayden Morrow in 34th (21:40.2) to round out the scoring five. Jonah Dockery (39th, 22:35.3) and Avery Taylor (47th, 23:42.0) also contributed strong efforts for the Eagles.


Hiwassee Dam’s consistency helped the team secure a top-five regional finish and a berth to the NCHSAA 1A State Championship Meet, scheduled for next weekend.


Andrews freshman Levi Clark led his team to the regional title with a third-place finish in 17:03.5, while Robbinsville’s Nathan Frederick (6th, 17:16.2) and Benjamin Frederick (7th, 17:16.3) also placed in the top 10.

Page’s win marks one of the most impressive regional performances in Hiwassee Dam’s recent history, setting the sophomore up as a contender for a state podium finish.
