CASHIERS, N.C. — Hiwassee Dam's strong start couldn't carry the Lady Eagles to victory Tuesday night, as they dropped a 3-1 conference decision to host Summit Charter in Western Highlands 1A/2A play.

The Lady Eagle squad, entering the match with a 3-1 mark in conference action, jumped out to a 25-21 edge in the opening set. But Summit Charter rallied to take the next three frames — 25-13, 25-18 and 25-20 — to improve to 3-4 in the league.

Hiwassee Dam, now 3-2 in conference and 4-16 overall, slipped to 2-11 on the road with the setback. The Lady Eagles, ranked 33rd in Class 2A and 495th statewide, have struggled away from home this season, posting just two wins in 10 previous road tests.

Summit Charter, which improved to 5-11 overall and 3-4 in conference, evened the season series after Hiwassee Dam's earlier victory. The Lady Eagles, ranked 34th in Class 2A and 515th statewide, have now won three of their last five matches, including two straight at home.

Hiwassee Dam's loss snapped a brief two-match winning streak and dropped their win percentage to .200. The Lady Eagles have won just four of 19 overall contests this fall, conceding 48 sets while securing 23.

The Lady Eagles will host Blue Ridge Early College on Thursday, Oct. 2.
