HMS Jackets Drop Second Strait in Buzzer Beater Loss

Hayesville Middle School boys' basketball lost Monday nights home contest 42-41 at the buzzer. After falling behind 15-13 after one, the tightly contested game was tied at 21 at the half. The Jackets would take a 5-point lead into the fourth. Robbinsville began the fourth with a 7-point run. In total there were 6 lead changes in the final quarter. Hayesville took a one-point lead 41-40 with a 3-point FG with just over 6 seconds left. Robbinsville would hit a 2-point shot with time running out to seal the game 42-41.


Hayesville shot 43% from the floor. Robbinsville hit 42% of their shots. The Jackets out rebounded the Black Knights 24-18. Turnovers were nearly identical with 15 for the Jackets and 14 for the Knights.


The Jackets who started out 6-0 before losing two straight by a total of four points are struggling to re-establish their identity after some recent adversity.


Coach Rob Peck remains optimistic about the remainder of the season. “We have a few things to figure out moving forward, but I have full confidence that this group will put the work in and will continue to play and prepare with great effort.” Peck added, “We got some great minutes from many of our players tonight. It is our job as coaches to further define each of their roles and put them in the best situation to be successful.”


The Jackets will return to the court Thursday as they travel to Rosman.
