Indianapolis busts game open with seven-run sixth inning to hand Gwinnett fourth straight defeat

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia – The Gwinnett Stripers (36-36, 74-72) couldn't muster a hit until the seventh inning on Thursday night, by which time the Indianapolis Indians (43-29, 74-73) had scored 15 runs en route to a 15-0 victory at Gwinnett Field. Indianapolis leads the final series of the year 3-0.

Decisive Plays: Indianapolis jumped on Stripers' starter Drue Hackenberg (L, 2-3) with a Jhostynxon Garcia three-run homer (9) to make it 3-0 after one inning. After five more Indians scored between the third and fifth innings, the lead was 8-0. Indianapolis kept pouring it on in the sixth, batting around and driving in seven more runs to make it 15-0, highlighted by a Nick Cimillo grand slam (15). The Stripers got their first hit in the bottom of the seventh from David McCabe after Indians starter Connor Wietgrefe (W, 6-5) was relieved following 6.0 no-hit innings. Neither team scored in the final three frames, and the Stripers fell 15-0.

Key Contributors: McCabe (1-for-4) broke up the no-hitter, while Brett Wisely (1-for-3) and Patrick Clohisy (1-for-4, double) also had hits for the Stripers. Tyler Uberstine fired 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. For Indianapolis, Garcia (2-for-4, homer, 4 RBIs), Cimillo (3-for-5, homer, 4 RBIs), and Tyler Callihan (2-for-5, homer, 3 RBIs) combined to drive in 11 of the 15 runs.

Noteworthy: The Stripers allowed 10-plus runs for the 10th time this season (1-9 record). It is their 12th time being shut out this season (9-12 record). Infielder Cal Conley pitched a scoreless ninth and recorded his first career strikeout, keeping his career ERA at 0.00 (0 ER in 2.2 IP).
