HIGHLANDS, N.C. — Hayesville fell just short against Highlands on Wednesday, losing 3-2 in a tightly contested Smoky Mountain Conference matchup.

The defeat mirrored an earlier loss to Highlands in September, leaving the Yellowjackets with a 4-4-1 record on the season. Highlands, meanwhile, continued their recent hot streak, winning six of their last eight matches to improve to 6-6-1.

Hayesville showed resilience throughout the game, keeping the match close, but Highlands managed to pull ahead in the decisive moments.

The Yellow Jackets are set to return to action on Monday, Oct.13 at 4 p.m. against Summit Charter, while Highlands will face off with Tri-County at 6 p.m.

The match is available for replay on the NFHS Network, the official streaming partner of the NCHSAA and Highlands High School.
