ANDREWS, N.C. — In a fiercely contested Smoky Mountain Conference volleyball match, Andrews outlasted Cherokee County rival Murphy, securing a 3-2 victory on Thursday, Sept. 4, in Andrews.

The match showcased intense back-and-forth action, with Andrews ultimately prevailing over the Lady Bulldogs in five sets. The win bolstered the Lady Wildcats' standing in the conference, while Murphy fought valiantly, pushing the match to its limit.

Murphy’s effort was notable, with the Lady Bulldogs claiming two sets, but Andrews’ resilience and home-court advantage proved decisive. Key plays down the stretch helped the Wildcats clinch the match, delighting the home crowd.

This loss drops Murphy’s record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the SMC, but the Bulldogs showed grit and determination throughout the match. Murphy will try to get back into the win column when they visit Hiwassee Dam on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in another Cherokee County Showdown.
