Lady Eagles Come Up Short in Season Opener Against Copper Basin

The Hiwassee Dam girls basketball team opened its season at home Tuesday night but couldn’t hang on late, falling 64–59 to visiting Copper Basin.

The Eagles kept the match-up tight throughout and looked poised to start the year with a win, but Copper Basin surged in the closing minutes to avenge a loss from the teams’ last meeting in January. Hiwassee Dam’s offense found its rhythm early, but the Cougars countered with steady scoring and a strong finish to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season.

Hiwassee Dam will look to regroup quickly as they prepare to host Macon Early College on Friday at 6 p.m. Copper Basin continues its early road stretch with a trip to Coalfield on Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
