Lady Jackets Roll, Boys Look to Rebound at Battle of the States Tournament

The Hayesville High School varsity basketball teams kicked off play at the annual Battle of the States Christmas Tournament in Hiawassee, Georgia, on Saturday, Dec. 27, with mixed results for the Yellow Jackets.

The Lady Yellow Jackets made an emphatic statement in their tournament opener, cruising past host Towns County by a commanding 69–32 final. Hayesville controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing balanced scoring and stifling defense to secure a spot in the winner’s bracket. With the victory, the Lady Jackets move on to face Franklin on Monday, Dec. 29, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m., as they look to continue their strong tournament run.

On the boys’ side, the Yellow Jackets ran into a tough challenge against Towns County and came up short in a 68–48 loss. Despite the setback, Hayesville remains alive in the tournament and will now compete in the consolation bracket. The Yellow Jackets are set to take on the Franklin Panthers on Monday, Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m., aiming to rebound in the consolation bracket.
