Union County Volleyball Splits Matches, Falls to Ringgold in Tight Contest

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County Panthers varsity volleyball team had a mixed night on Tuesday, Sept. 16, dominating Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe in a 2-0 sweep but falling short in a thrilling 2-1 loss to Ringgold in a home conference showdown.
Against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, the Panthers showcased their strength, securing a decisive victory with set scores of 25-5 and 25-21. The win improved Union County’s record to 13-8, reinforcing their competitive edge in the conference.
However, the subsequent match against Ringgold proved to be a tougher battle. Described as a true "cat-fight," the contest saw intense back-and-forth action. Ringgold claimed the first set 25-16, but Union County responded with a hard-fought 25-23 victory in the second set. Despite their resilience, the Panthers fell 15-11 in the decisive third set, marking their third consecutive loss to the Tigers.
The defeat dropped Union County to a 13-8 record, while Ringgold extended their winning streak to four games, improving to 20-8. The Tigers, ranked 100th in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings, continue to build momentum.
Looking ahead, Union County (ranked 130th) will face Pickens (ranked 262nd) on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m., offering a prime opportunity to rebound. Meanwhile, Ringgold will take on Grace Baptist Academy (ranked 250th) on the same day, holding a clear ranking advantage.
