ree

ANDREWS, N.C. — The Murphy Bulldogs left no doubt Friday night, shutting out county rival Andrews 59-0 in a commanding performance that showcased their strength on both sides of the ball.

The victory marked Murphy’s fourth straight win and improved the Bulldogs to 6-2 on the season. It also continued a dominant stretch in which Murphy has outscored opponents by an average of more than 34 points per game.

Murphy’s defense was unrelenting, keeping the Wildcats off the scoreboard for all four quarters, while the Bulldogs’ offense piled on the points in a performance that further solidified their reputation as one of the Smoky Mountain Conference’s most complete teams.

For Andrews, the loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-7, as they struggled to find offensive rhythm against a stingy Murphy front.

Both teams will return to action Friday. Murphy will host Hayesville at 7:30 p.m. in a matchup featuring two of the region’s standout running backs, Cameron Clem of Murphy and Tre Graves of Hayesville. Andrews will look to regroup at home against Cherokee, whose defense has allowed nearly 30 points per game this season.

The Bulldogs will aim to keep their winning streak alive, while the Wildcats will look for redemption under the Friday night lights of Cherokee County.
