Murphy’s Season Ends With Second-Round Loss to Cornerstone Charter

GREENSBORO — The Murphy Lady Bulldogs saw their postseason run come to an end Tuesday in the second round of the NCHSAA 2A state volleyball championship, falling in straight sets to Cornerstone Charter.


Murphy entered the matchup fresh off a hard-fought first-round victory but couldn’t keep that momentum alive, dropping the match 25-12, 25-12, 25-15.


The loss marked the Lady Bulldogs’ third defeat in their last four outings, closing their season with an 11-12 overall record.


Cornerstone Charter extended its home winning streak to nine matches and improved to 24-4 with the victory, advancing to the third round of the state playoffs.


For Murphy, the defeat capped a season defined by perseverance and close competition, as the Lady Bulldogs battled through a challenging schedule to earn their spot among the state’s top programs.
