Page Takes the Win for Eagles

MURPHY, N.C. — Oscar Page of Hiwassee Dam High School won the boys' 5,000-meter race at the Jaguar Jungle Run, leading his team to a third-place finish in the high school division.


Page, a sophomore, finished in 17:07.1 on Saturday at Tri-County Early College, outpacing the field by more than 56 seconds. Teammate Maverick Hawley, also a sophomore, placed eighth in 19:21.2. Hiwassee Dam scored 64 points, behind Union County (34) and Robbinsville (42).


Other Hiwassee Dam scorers in the boys' high school race included sophomore Xavier Johnson (21:00.9), senior Abel Penland (21:15.7) and junior Travis Allen (23:33.0). Sophomore Jonah Dockery (24:58.0) and freshman Brayden Morrow (27:52.0) also contributed.


In the girls' high school 5,000 meters, Hiwassee Dam sophomore Avery Freemon finished in 30:35.7. The team did not field enough runners for a score, with Cherokee winning at 22 points.


Hiwassee Dam's middle school boys placed second with 75 points in the 2-mile run, led by seventh-graders Anthony Page (13:23.0) and Luke Page (13:42.0). Seventh-grader Sawyer Hawley (14:25.2) and eighth-grader Adam "Jake" Harbin (14:49.3) added to the scoring.

No Hiwassee Dam middle school girls competed.
