The Towns County Indians showed grit and energy in their home matchup Friday night, but the Union County Panthers proved too much to handle down the stretch, handing the Indians a 76–55 loss in non-conference play.

Union County, coming off a strong preseason, wasted no time establishing momentum. Their fast tempo and accurate shooting helped them build an early lead, and although Towns County responded with several impressive runs of their own, the Panthers continued to stretch the margin as the game progressed. By the time the final horn sounded, Union County fans who made the trip from Blairsville had plenty to cheer about as the Panthers opened their season with authority.

With the win, Union County moves to 1-0 and now turns its attention to another non-league contest against Gilmer (Ellijay, GA). The Bobcats also enter the matchup unbeaten at 1-0 after a 68–62 victory over Dawson County. The Panthers will look to build on their offensive rhythm as they continue early-season play.

For Towns County, the loss drops the Indians to 0-2 to start the season. Despite the setback, there were bright spots—strong ball movement, early-season intensity, and several promising performances that kept the home crowd engaged. The team now shifts focus quickly as they prepare to host Lumpkin County on Tuesday, November 18. Lumpkin enters the game with momentum of its own, sitting at 3-0 following a 62–56 win over East Forsyth.

With a tough early schedule, Towns County hopes the experience against strong competition will begin paying dividends as the season unfolds. Tip-off Tuesday offers another chance to make a statement and earn their first win of the year.
