BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County High School varsity softball team fell 5-0 to Sonoraville in region road game on Tuesday, Sept. 23, struggling to generate offense against a strong Phoenix squad.
The game remained scoreless through three innings before Sonoraville broke through with four runs in the fourth and added one more in the fifth. Union County managed just two hits and committed one error, unable to counter Sonoraville’s six hits and solid defense, which also recorded one error.
The Panthers’ bats were silenced throughout, failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities against Sonoraville’s pitching. This loss adds to a challenging season for Union County, who faced Sonoraville earlier on Aug. 26, falling 3-1 in a home conference matchup.
Union County’s schedule has been demanding, with recent games including a 7-3 loss to North Cobb Christian on Sept. 8, a 5-1 defeat to North Hall on Sept. 3, and a 4-3 loss to Rockmart on Aug. 14. Despite these setbacks, the Panthers remain focused as they navigate their region. The Lady Panthers currently sit in third place in the 2A Region 7 standings.
The team’s next will be at home at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 against Ringold.
