Steinarsdóttir, Caveney Pace WCU to Top-10 at Tot Hill Farm

Asheboro, N.C. – Behind another strong tournament from Elsa Maren Steinarsdóttir and a final-round charge from Annalee Caveney, Western Carolina women's golf recorded a top-10 finish Tuesday at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational, placing ninth as the 54-hole event concluded at Tot Hill Farm Golf Club.

Caveney rebounded from an early double-bogey, carding three birdies to work back to even par through 15 holes. Two late bogeys dropped her final-round score to 2-over-par 74, but not before she climbed 13 positions on the leaderboard into a tie for 38th. She also tied for the tournament lead in par-5 scoring at 5-under-par (4.67 average) and finished the week with seven birdies.

Steinarsdóttir finished tied for 12th at 3-over-par 219 after a closing-round 76, matching her second-best 54-hole score as a Catamount. The sophomore paced Western Carolina with 10 birdies during the tournament, including six in Monday's career-low 4-under-par 68 that was completed Tuesday morning after weather delayed the second round.

Freshmen Marissa Scaletta, Julia Capellini and Kelsey Haverluck rounded out Western Carolina's scoring five. Scaletta tied for 53rd at 20-over-par 236 and carded a team-high four birdies during Tuesday's final round. Capellini finished tied for 57th at 238, while Haverluck placed 65th at 245.

The Catamounts finished at 52-over-par 916, four strokes behind Southern Conference foe Wofford and outpaced fellow league foe Tennessee Tech in the 13-team field.

Campbell cruised to the nine-stroke team victory over tournament host College of Charleston. The Camels posted a two-day score 4-under-par 860, while the Cougars shot 5-over-par 869. UNC Wilmington (876) was a distant third, with Coastal Carolina (891) and Old Dominion (892) rounding out the top five.

Campbell’s Fanni Gronlund and South Carolina individual Yana Beeli shared the medalist honors with matching scores of 6-under par, 210. Beeli rallied six spots over the final round with a tourney-low tying round of 67 on Tuesday.

Western Carolina returns to action Oct. 12-13, at the Terrier Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford at the Country Club of Spartanburg. WCU finished just four strokes in arrears of the Terriers this week in Asheboro.
