As the new year begins, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office has released an update outlining recent progress and developments within the agency, while also reaffirming its commitment to public safety and transparency.
According to the sheriff’s office, officials are nearing the completion of their assumption of office processes and have made significant headway in recent weeks. Several pieces of agency-owned equipment that had been unaccounted for have now been returned. The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation to community members and others who took the time to ensure those items were brought back.
The update also addressed the status of previously reported missing firearms. One of the missing firearms has been recovered; however, the matter remains under active investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Authorities noted that one firearm, identified by serial number CETD710, has not yet been located. Additional details will be released as appropriate as the investigation continues.
In financial news, the Towns County Sheriff’s Office announced that its budget was approved by the County Commissioner last week. Officials thanked county partners for their cooperation as the department prepares for the 2026 fiscal year.
The sheriff’s office concluded the update by thanking the community for its continued support and emphasized its focus on serving and protecting Towns County. Officials said they are looking ahead to a safe and positive year for residents and visitors alike.
