HIAWASSEE, Ga. — The Towns County varsity softball team suffered a lopsided 16-1 defeat against Washington-Wilkes in a regional road game on Thursday, struggling to find their footing against a dominant Tigers squad.
Washington-Wilkes exploded for 12 runs in the first inning, capitalizing on Towns County’s defensive miscues. The Indians committed four errors and managed just two hits, while the Tigers racked up 10 hits without an error. Towns County’s lone run came in the third inning, but it wasn’t enough to counter Washington-Wilkes’ offensive onslaught, which included two additional runs in both the second and third innings.
The loss drops Towns County to 0-2 in regional play, following a 9-1 defeat to Washington-Wilkes on Sept. 4. The Indians have faced a challenging season, with their schedule showing no wins in the provided game history. Recent games included a 15-3 loss to Commerce on Sept. 15 and a 19-9 defeat to Rabun County on Sept. 10, highlighting their struggles against strong opponents.
Towns County will look to rebound as they face Tallulah Falls at home on Sept. 29 at 5:00 p.m., followed by another home game against Commerce on Sept. 30 at 5:00 p.m. Both matchups present opportunities for the Indians to secure their first conference win and regain momentum.
