BLUE RIDGE, Ga. — The Union County Panthers suffered their fifth consecutive loss dating back to last season, falling 28-22 to the Fannin County Rebels in a hard-fought high school football game on Saturday, Aug. 30, in Blue Ridge. The game, originally scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29, was postponed due to a shortage of officials.
The Panthers (0-2) came close to snapping their losing streak but couldn’t overcome the Rebels (1-2), who secured their first victory of the season. The matchup was a rematch of an August 2024 clash, where Fannin County dominated Union County 42-7. This time, the Panthers kept the game competitive, narrowing the margin to just six points.
Despite the loss, Union County showed resilience, battling until the final whistle. Fannin County’s balanced attack and key defensive stops ultimately proved decisive in the outcome.
Looking ahead, Union County will seek their first win of the season when they travel to face Murray County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. Meanwhile, Fannin County will carry the momentum from their victory into a matchup against Coosa at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.
