Tuesday night belonged to the home teams at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe as the Warriors and Lady Warriors delivered contrasting results against their Region 6-AAA rivals from Blairsville.
In the girls’ game, the Union County Lady Panthers dominated from start to finish, cruising to a convincing 63-30 road victory. The Lady Panthers set the tone early and never looked back, holding LFO to single digits in multiple quarters on their way to improving their region standing. The lopsided win keeps Union County squarely in the hunt for a top seed when the region tournament rolls around.
The nightcap, however, told a different story. The LFO boys erupted for 46 first-half points and never took their foot off the gas, rolling past Union County 83-49. The Warriors shot the lights out early, building a 46-18 halftime lead behind suffocating defense and red-hot shooting. Union County fought back to outscore LFO in the third quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome in a game that quickly got out of hand.
Both Union County squads will be back in action this Friday, December 12, when they host Coahulla Creek in another critical Region 6-AAA doubleheader. The girls will look to keep rolling after Tuesday’s statement win, while the boys aim to bounce back on their home floor in Blairsville. Tip times are set for 6:00 p.m. (girls) and approximately 7:30 p.m. (boys).
