Union County Volleyball Splits Matches Against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee and Lumpkin County

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County High School varsity volleyball team experienced a mixed outcome in their recent matches, falling 2-0 to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee but rebounding with a 2-0 victory over Lumpkin County on Thursday.


In the matchup against Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Rabun Gap, Ga.), Union County (12-7) struggled to find their rhythm, losing both sets 25-19 and 25-23. Despite the defeat, the Panthers showed resilience in the closely contested sets.


Later in the evening, Union County faced Lumpkin County (10-10) and secured a hard-fought 2-0 win with set scores of 25-23 and 26-24. The tight margins underscored the competitive nature of the match, with every set decided by three points or fewer. Sophomore Samantha Combs led the Panthers with an impressive 14 digs and two assists, anchoring the team’s defense and playmaking.


The victory over Lumpkin County improved Union County’s record to 12-7, while Lumpkin County dropped to 10-10, extending their losing streak to three games.


Looking ahead, Union County will host Andrews at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 aiming to build on their momentum.
