ree

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Mountain Lions women's soccer team started off their 2025 campaign with a 4-0 win over Mars Hill University on Thursday (Sept. 4) evening in North Carolina. After almost two hours of weather delays, the match got underway at 6:45 p.m.; within two hours, the Mountain Lions walked out of Meares Stadium with a W in hand. Head Coach Avram Allen stated, "It took us a while to get going. We definitely had the case of first game jitters." Continuing, "Once the game settled, we were able to play some great soccer on the night. It feels great to win the first one and I am proud of the team effort tonight!"

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The first half ended with no goals scored, while the Lions outshot the Mountain Lions 4-3, with Freshman Goalkeeper Clara Williams earning two saves.

  • The second half was a full flip of the stat sheet, with YH out-shooting MHU 8-0, while also earning seven corner kicks.

  • Betsy Bu grew restless with the two zeros under each team on the scoreboard, as she netted the first goal of the 2025 season for Young Harris in the 54th minute.

  • Within twenty minutes of game time, Freshman Forward Darfur Martinez and Junior transfer Lauren Gauthier both scored for the Mountain Lions to take a 3-0 lead.

  • With just over a minute-thirty to go, Gauthier fired in her second shot of the season, and it landed in the back of the net to give YH a 4-0 opening match win over MHU.

  • Young Harris outshot Mars Hill, 11-4.

  • The Mountain Lions also remained as cool as a cucumber, winning the foul battle by drawing four while only committing two.

  • Newcomers Candice Deschamps and Aslaug Bratheim each tallied an assist for the purple and white.
