MURPHY, N.C. — Murphy Middle School briefly went into a Code Yellow status Tuesday, Oct. 14 after a student reported inappropriate drawings and writing in the girls’ restroom, according to Principal Adam Clonts.
In a letter sent to parents, Clonts said the precautionary measure was taken to enhance school security and maintain heightened awareness while classes continued as normal. The school’s administrative team conducted a thorough investigation, including interviews with multiple students.
“After completing our investigation, we determined that the report was unfounded and that what was written on the restroom wall did not constitute a credible threat to students or staff,” Clonts said.
The Code Yellow was lifted once the situation was resolved, and the school has since returned to normal operations.
Clonts thanked students and staff for their vigilance and encouraged anyone with concerns to continue reporting them to school officials.
“The safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority,” he said. “We would rather investigate and find no threat than overlook something important.”
