Downtown Murphy is transforming into a Halloween destination this month, with decorated storefronts, family-friendly activities, and a few good scares for those brave enough to seek them out.

From Thursdays through Sundays, The Asylum is operating upstairs at 13 Peachtree Street. Organizers are billing it as a cinematic nightmare experience, with the tagline “Murphy, are you brave enough to enter Asylum?” Admission is $20 per person. The attraction is not recommended for young children.

On Friday, October 23, the Cherokee County Arts Council hosts Haunts & Harvest at Open Studios. The free event features spooky storytelling with an Appalachian twist, and everyone is welcome.

Saturday, October 24, brings two options. The Murphy Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the L&N Depot. That evening, Konehete Park hosts a free Halloween BOO-vie Night featuring a showing of E.T. The Ark food truck will be on site for dinner, and organizers encourage families to bring blankets and chairs. Kettle corn, hot chocolate, coffee, and hot apple cider will also be available for purchase.

The main event arrives on Saturday, October 31, with A Murphy Haunting: Trick-or-Treating in Downtown Murphy. The family-friendly evening runs from 4 to 7 p.m. At 6 p.m., a youth costume contest takes place at Center Stage, with categories for ages under 18 and Best Group Family Costume. Prizes will be awarded, and participants are encouraged to arrive early to register.
