BRYSON CITY, N.C. — The Andrews High School boys cross country team claimed the 1A Western Regional Championship on Saturday, Oct. 25, dominating the field at the 5K meet held in Bryson City.
Led by freshman Levi Clark, who finished third overall in 17 minutes, 3.5 seconds, and fellow freshman Elliott Salinas, who crossed just two-tenths of a second later in fourth place, the Wildcats posted a team score of 44 to edge out Robbinsville (57) and NCSSM-Morganton (71).
Junior Gabe Clark finished eighth overall in 17:25.6, while senior Myca Mustin (18:10.3) and freshman Jayce Donaldson (18:11.9) rounded out Andrews’ scoring lineup, placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Freshman Luke Clark (20:19.0) and senior Ethan Garrett (22:33.6) also contributed strong efforts for the championship squad.
The victory secured Andrews the regional title and a spot in the upcoming NCHSAA 1A State Championship meet, marking one of the program’s strongest postseason performances in recent years.
Hiwassee Dam’s Oscar Page won the individual title in 16:59.1, narrowly edging Thomas Jefferson Classical’s Isaac Magid (16:59.5). Robbinsville placed second as a team behind the performances of Nathan and Benjamin Frederick, who took sixth and seventh.
Andrews will now turn its focus to the state meet, where the Wildcats will look to carry their momentum into the season finale.
