Andrews Edges Swain County in Thrilling 3-2 Volleyball Match

BRYSON CITY, N.C. — The Swain County High School varsity volleyball team fell to Andrews in a tightly contested home conference match on Tuesday, September 9, with a final score of 3-2.


The match saw Andrews (8-2 overall, 4-2 conference) take an early lead, winning the first two sets 25-19 and 25-19. Swain County (5-5 overall, 1-4 conference) battled back, dominating the third and fourth sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-23, respectively. However, Andrews clinched the decisive fifth set 15-10 to secure the victory.


Andrews, ranked 269 in North Carolina and 10 in their class, showcased their strong season performance with a .800 overall win percentage and a .667 conference win percentage. Swain County, ranked 364 in the state and 33 in their class, holds a .500 overall win percentage but has struggled in conference play with a .200 win rate.


The loss drops Swain County to 2-4 at home, while Andrews improves to 5-1 on the road. Both teams displayed resilience, with Swain County’s comeback effort highlighting their potential as they prepare for upcoming matches.


Next, the Lady Wildcats head to Hayesville on Thursday, Sept. 11 for a showdown in major implications in the Smoky Mountain Conference standings.
