CHEROKEE, N.C. — The Cherokee Layd Indians secured a 3-0 victory against a resilient Andrews High School squad in Monday's home conference match, showcasing their dominance while Andrews displayed commendable effort.
Cherokee took the first set 25-21, overcoming a determined Andrews team that kept the score tight with strong defensive plays. The Braves pulled ahead in the second set, winning 25-19, as Andrews continued to challenge with spirited rallies. In the third set, Cherokee sealed the match with a 25-12 win, though Andrews showed heart with moments of tenacity.
The Braves’ cohesive teamwork showed why they are once again considered the team to beat in the Smoky Mountain Conference, while Andrews’ grit and hustle highlighted their potential as they look to build on this performance in future matches.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, the Lady Wildcats hit the road to take on an 0-3 Highlands team.
