MURPHY, N.C. — The Heard County Braves exacted revenge on the Murphy Bulldogs, cruising to a decisive 42-10 victory in a high school football showdown on Friday night. The Braves, who fell to Murphy in their last meeting in August 2024, showcased their offensive prowess and left no doubt about their dominance this time around.
Heard County’s success hinged on the dynamic connection between quarterback Ethan Tisdale and running back Darience Coleman. Tisdale amassed 226 total yards, while Coleman powered through Murphy’s defense, rushing for 133 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries. The Braves’ relentless ground game overwhelmed the Bulldogs, securing Heard County’s third consecutive win and improving their record to 3-0.
Murphy struggled to find answers, unable to replicate the success of their previous encounter with the Braves.
Quarterback Brady Grant completed 10 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown, with Ryan Payne hauling in 34 receiving yards as his primary target. Running back Cameron Clem contributed 41 rushing yards, but the Bulldogs’ offense couldn’t keep pace. The loss dropped Murphy’s record to 1-1.
Both teams now turn their attention to upcoming home games. Murphy will look to rebound against East Surry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.
