Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Implements New Inmate Mail Scanning System

Murphy, NC – The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has rolled out a new digital mail scanning system designed to prevent contraband from entering the detention facility while making it easier and faster for family and friends to send approved mail to inmates.

The InTouch Mail Scanning system, powered by NCIC Inmate Communications, allows senders to electronically transmit documents, photos, and messages directly to inmates. Users can set up an account at www.NCIC.com and send content instantly through the inmate messaging platform.

For those preferring traditional mail, all physical correspondence (except books, magazines, newspapers, legal mail, and medical mail) must now be sent to a central processing address and will be scanned and delivered electronically to the inmate.

Important Mailing Guidelines:

  • Required Address Format: Inmate Name Here SO# Here Facility Name Here PO BOX 591 Longview, Texas 75606

  • Mail must include the inmate’s full name and booking/jacket number, plus a return address.

  • Maximum size: 8.5" x 11".

  • No more than 5 pages per envelope.

  • Only 1 photo per mailing.

  • Mail is scanned front side only — do not write on the back.

  • Legal and medical mail must be sent directly to the Cherokee County Detention Facility following their specific protocols.

Critical Warning: Any mail sent to PO Box 591 that does not meet these strict guidelines will not be returned. It will be destroyed during processing. Senders agree to these terms by using the new address.

Books, magazines, newspapers, and bulk mail are not accepted through the PO Box and must follow the facility’s existing rules.

Once processed, scanned mail is securely delivered to inmates, who can view it on kiosks or tablets inside the facility. There are no exceptions to these rules.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the new system is part of ongoing efforts to enhance facility security while improving communication options for inmates and their loved ones.
