Warne, N.C. — On Saturday, May 23, the Clay County Republican Party held its 7th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation event at West Tubing Company in Warne, drawing nearly 100 attendees including GOP members, guests, and local dignitaries to honor the men and women of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement personnel.
The event celebrated the dedication and service of local law enforcement officers who protect and serve the citizens of Clay County. Sheriff Mark Buchanan presented former Chief Deputy Joe Wood with an “Appreciation of Service” award during the gathering.
Attendees also received a Proclamation from 11th District Congressman Chuck Edwards recognizing the occasion. Henry Mitchell, Special Assistant to Congressman Edwards, presented Congressional Challenge Coins to all deputies in attendance. North Carolina House Representative Karl Gillespie of Macon County delivered remarks at the event.
The Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was first organized by the Clay County GOP in 2020 as a direct response to the national “Defund the Police” movement and other policies perceived as anti-law enforcement. Organizers say the annual event aims to show strong community support for local officers and recognize the risks and sacrifices they make while performing their duties.
The gathering served as both a celebration and a show of gratitude, highlighting the ongoing partnership between the community and those who serve and protect it.
