Clay County Heritage Day Set for August 16 in Hayesville

ree

HAYESVILLE, N.C. — The Clay County Historical & Arts Council will host a Heritage Day celebration on August 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hayesville Heritage Park, adjacent to the Cherokee Homestead Village, to honor the rich history of Clay County.

The event will feature heritage crafts, demonstrations, old-time music, and storytelling by local elders. Attendees can also enjoy venison chili and cornbread, adding a taste of tradition to the festivities.

A highlight of the day will be an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts to share family histories. Visitors are encouraged to bring notes, photographs, and memorabilia to display. The council asks participants to prepare a one- or two-page chart or information sheet of their genealogy, which will be compiled into a scrapbook for the Old Jail Museum as a resource for future family history research.

The Clay County Historical & Arts Council invites everyone to celebrate their family heritage and connect with the community’s shared history. For more information, contact the Clay County Historical & Arts Council.
