Clay County Man Arrested for Sexual Battery on Minor

BRASSTOWN, N.C. — On August 15, 2025, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested 76-year-old Martin Andrew Cupp of Brasstown following a report of unwanted sexual contact with a 16-year-old. The incident, which allegedly occurred at Cupp’s residence, prompted a swift investigation led by Clay County Investigator Brandon Coker.


According to the Sheriff’s Office, interviews conducted with both the juvenile and Cupp provided sufficient evidence to charge Cupp with misdemeanor Sexual Battery. He was taken into custody and issued a $5,000 secured bond for his release.


The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details to protect the privacy of the minor involved. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to review the case.
