Clay County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Yet Another Phone Scam

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam after receiving several reports Monday of callers impersonating law enforcement.

According to the reports, a male caller is telling people they must participate in a Zoom meeting with a judge and make a payment. The sheriff’s office said the calls are a scam and that it will never call demanding money or instructing someone to make a payment to avoid legal consequences.

Officials said the scammers can be convincing and may use the names of actual law enforcement officers to appear legitimate.

The sheriff’s office advised anyone who receives such a call not to provide personal or financial information, not to send money and to hang up immediately. It encouraged residents to share the warning, particularly with elderly family members and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the scam.
