Clay County Woman Arrested on Drug and Traffic Charges

On 02/05/26 around 4:12 PM, during drug interdiction efforts, Clay County Investigator Brandon Coker stopped a Nissan Pathfinder at the intersection of US Hwy 64 and NC Hwy 175. Laura Surelle Henry, 53 years of age from Hayesville, was found to be driving.
Henry told Investigator Coker that she had just left the residence located at 270 Dyer Cove Road in Hayesville. Investigator Coker was familiar with this residence, which had earlier been searched for drugs pursuant to a search warrant. Henry consented to a search of her person and vehicle. Investigator Coker found and seized a prescription bottle wrapped in black tape that contained a quantity of Amphetamine, which is a N.C. Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Henry was arrested and charged with felony Possession of Amphetamine, felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Drugs, and Failure to Maintain Lane Control. Henry was confined in the Clay County Detention Center and held under a $10,000 secured bond.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
