Emily Sneed Named Principal of Hiwassee Dam Middle School

Cherokee County Schools has announced the appointment of Emily Sneed as the new principal of Hiwassee Dam Middle School, marking what district leaders say is an exciting new chapter for the school.

Superintendent Dr. Keevin Woody and the Cherokee County Board of Education expressed their enthusiasm in welcoming Sneed to the leadership role, citing her experience within the district and her strong ties to the local community.

Sneed began her career with Cherokee County Schools in 2012 as a teacher at Andrews Elementary School, where she focused on elementary education and student achievement. She most recently served for the past two years at Ranger Elementary School, continuing to build her instructional leadership skills and commitment to academic excellence. Throughout her tenure, district officials say Sneed has been recognized for fostering positive learning environments and building strong relationships with students, families, and staff.

A Cherokee County native, Sneed is a 2008 graduate of Andrews High School. School officials say her local roots reflect a deep commitment to the students and families of the community. She and her husband have been married for 17 years and are the parents of three daughters. Outside of school, Sneed enjoys traveling with her family and spending quality time together.

Sneed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University, earned in 2011, and recently completed her Master’s degree in School Administration at Western Carolina University in 2025.

District leaders noted that Sneed’s dedication to student success and professional growth positions her well to lead Hiwassee Dam Middle School. As principal, she plans to focus on creating a culture centered on excellence, safety, and school pride.

“I am incredibly honored to join the Hiwassee Dam Eagles,” Sneed said. “My commitment as your principal is to ensure that every student feels supported, every teacher feels empowered, and every family feels welcome. I look forward to working together to make this school year our best one yet.”

Cherokee County Schools officials said Sneed’s blend of classroom experience, leadership preparation, and community connections is expected to have a positive impact on Hiwassee Dam Middle School as she begins her new role.
