England Elected Mayor as Hayesville Voters Choose New Leadership

Voters in the Town of Hayesville made their choices Tuesday, November 4, in a local election that decided the mayor’s office and seats on the town council.


Benita C. England won the race for mayor with a commanding 71.74% of the vote, earning 66 ballots in her favor. Michael R. Castellano received 26 votes, or 28.26%. No write-in votes were recorded in the contest.


In the race for Hayesville Town Council, where voters could select up to three candidates, Vanessa Lauren Tiger led the field with 74 votes, or 35.24%. Harry Baughn followed with 69 votes (32.86%), and Joe Slaton finished third with 61 votes (29.05%). There were also six write-in votes cast, making up 2.86% of the total.


All three precincts reported results on election night, finalizing the outcome for both races.


The results signal a new chapter for Hayesville’s leadership as residents look ahead to the next term of town government.
