Clay County Sheriff's Office

Press Release

Early in the afternoon of 12/28/25, Clay County Officers Donovan Burke and Corey Scroggs were dispatched to 315 River Run Way in Hayesville. A report had been received from this address concerning a physical domestic dispute.

Upon their arrival, Officers Burke and Scroggs found family members holding Conner Crews Giles, 30 years of age from Jacksonville Florida, down onto the ground. Family members reported that Giles had been drinking for three days and was a convicted felon. It was reported that Giles had taken a semiautomatic pistol away from one of the family members, took it outside, and fired it.

Once back inside, Giles assaulted a family member by charging at him and pushing him in the chest. After this assault, members of the family held Giles onto the ground until the arrival of Officer Burke and Scroggs.

Giles was arrested and charged with felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Simple Assault. Giles was held without a bond having been issued.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
