HAYESVILLE, N.C. — Clay County Fire and Rescue contained a residential structure fire in the Fires Creek Fire District on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, preventing a total loss of the home, officials said.

The fire, reported at approximately 1:15 p.m., began in the kitchen and rapidly spread to the walls and attic. Firefighters faced challenging conditions due to the fire’s intensity and high temperatures but successfully brought it under control.

Clay County Fire and Rescue credited the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies for the operation’s success. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office assisted by pulling hoses and spraying water, enabling initial crews to enter the structure. Clay County Emergency Services ensured firefighters stayed hydrated and took breaks, while also pumping a truck to free up personnel for fire suppression. Towns County Fire Rescue provided additional firefighters to relieve Clay County crews.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Clay County Fire Chief Brian Anderson told WJRB the Red Cross has been asked to assist the family.

Further details about the extent of the damage were not immediately available.
